I had my mind set on the novi 1000 paxton s/c for my 90 5.0...But I see these units on ebay new for 1599 shipped to my door: http://www.proficientperformance.com...ode=K10170-101
I started thinking about this when I saw that it didn't require me to drill the pan for the oil...Anyone have anything to say about this unit???...My only consideration is that I know the paxton will whine like hell which is a big portion of why I want it...This unit features some silet belt technology so I am worried it won't whine at all...Which to me that is not worth giving up for not having to drill my oil pan...I'm having a hard time deciding..Please you all help me out, I plan on getting a s/c in the next few months...
Thanks,
I have the novi 1000 and it does whine like hell which really appeals to me. I'm pushing 12 pounds of boost with a 3 inch pulley and a power pipe. I got mine from musclemotors.com for 1700 shipped. for the price, they're hard to beat. as for powerdyne, I haven't heard much about them other than the occasional negative. paxton makes a great product though.
as for the self oiling part, I thought the same way as you at first but now I am glad I went the route I did. for one thing, it only takes a few minutes to tap the pan if you have the right tools and then you never have to worry about checking the oil in the blower. small price to pay. I think that in the long run, you's be happier just tapping the pan.
check out my pics. I have a bunch of my install.
thanks for the post clint...i'm going novi 1000 all the way....how long did it take you to install? How mechanically inclined are you?...Just curious what i'm in for...thanks to you others too
it actually took me longer than usual. 20 hours. ran into numerous snags. I didn't have the right tap or punch, had to grind a few bolts, and went through a bunch of serpentine belts trying to find the right one. it should only take about 6 or 8 hours depending on if you're drinkin beer or not
Well heres the thing. The self contained oil supply is better because you never have to worry about all the junk coming out of your engine and going through your blower. If you all of a sudden break something then bam there it goes getting metal shrapnel getting pumped through the blower. Thats just not worth the chance.
Plus the Prochargers are intercooled systems. Cooler air is obviously. Blowing all that hot air in there isnt as good and doesnt have the potential for making the power as the cooler air. Hot air, you have to cut back on the timing and all that. I've had timing added to mine.
Plus, look at all the records being set in the NMRA. They are all procharged cars. Most of the titles are being won by the procharged cars.
And plus in certain classes, where you are allowed to run blowers with like 12.56" blower housings, if you have a Procharger, you are only allowed to run like a 9.xx" blower housing, and the Procharger cars are still overcoming the competition.
Its the best hands down.

I agree with you. procharger is definately the best but they're also very expensive. for someone like me who may not want to spend but a couple of grand for a quick little street car, a novi 1000 is a cheap way to do it. as for the intercooling, I'm just gonna spend the 300 bucks and add a snow kit. but if i had the cash, I would've bought the procharger with the intercooler system.
