Question Six Pack Help

I posted this one over on the classic forum but got no responses I'm hopeing for a bit of help here. I'm thinking real hard about a tri-power setup on my 289. My question is which system is better the original Holley setup or the Pony Carb Autolite setup. I have absolutely no experience with multi-carb setups. Has anyone delt with either of these systems? What did you like and what didn't you like about them? I'd like to get a bit of a feel for the plusses and minuses before I write the check 'cause they sure ain't cheap! Help would be much appreciated.

Mike

Default Mike: go with quadruple instead

OK. Do you want to install this for power gains or the looks?

For power and throttle response, I suggest you go with a 4 x weber IDA setup. It's ideal for track days and on curvy tracks.

The tri- setup look the part, and is even more classic then the four weber setup. I guess, for the looks- choose whatever. For the sake of it, choose Holley for ease of availability on parts?

I ran a 67 mustang for 13 years at the track, and had both a single four, dual quad and a tri power on a 428.

The single four made the most power, but I found the tri-power the most street friendly. Take a close look at the linkage. I set mine so around town with light acceleration, I was just running on the two barrel. The linkage was adjustabe so you could change how soon the outside carbs came in. With the aluminum air cleaner (long oval) it looked tough to.

But, like I said, the single four actually made more power....probably because the intake manifold was a modern design.
