Default Blowers, nitrous, and other fuels

Can anyone suggest a good website(s) or book(s) to learn about blowers, nitrous, and other fuels(such as alcohol)? I mean, I want to learn the octane rating(if there is one) or at least combustibility of nitrous and alcohol. And the theory behind blowers(the gear ratios, and just everything). I know how to build motors through and through, but never built a blown motor. I understand how a blower works, I just want to learn about boost, ratios, gears, and all the finer details beyond the simple workings of a blower. .

The thing I'm trying to do here is design motors beyond natural aspiration. I have added nitrous before, I just want to learn a little more about it. And I just want to be able to know my limitations with different fuels and blower/fuel combinations and all that. Cause as anyone who has built a motor knows, you don't want to spend thousands of dollars on a wild motor just to have it eat itself alive during your first pass.

BTW, nitrous is NON combustionable.

Well it's gotta have some flamability. Or else no one would be using it and it wouldn't ignite in the combustion chambers.

Anyone else got any websites or books?

Also, HowStuffWorks doesn't help me any. The only thing close is how a turbocharger works which I'm not interested in.

Anyone?

The above link is about N2O. Nitrous is NON flamable, it adds oxygen (compressed air), similiar to that of a s/c but at very cold temps.


The following IS from howstuffworks.com:

When you heat nitrous oxide to about 570 degrees F (~300 C), it splits into oxygen and nitrogen. So the injection of nitrous oxide into an engine means that more oxygen is available during combustion. Because you have more oxygen, you can also inject more fuel, allowing the same engine to produce more power. Nitrous oxide is one of the simplest ways to provide a significant horsepower boost to any gasoline engine.


Nitrous oxide has another effect that improves performance even more. When it vaporizes, nitrous oxide provides a significant cooling effect on the intake air. When you reduce the intake air temperature, you increase the air's density, and this provides even more oxygen inside the cylinder. The only problem with nitrous oxide is that it is fairly bulky, and the engine needs a lot of it. Like any gas, it takes up a fair amount of space even when compressed into a liquid. A 5-liter engine running at 4,000 rotations per minute (rpm) consumes about 10,000 liters of air every minute (compared to about 0.2 liters of gasoline), so it would take a tremendous amount of nitrous oxide to run a car continuously. Therefore, a car normally carries only a few minutes of nitrous oxide, and the driver uses it very selectively by pushing a button.

Go to your local Barnes and Nobles or favorite good bookstore and there is a book called "Superchargers, Turbos and Nitrous Oxide"...It is an awesome book!
