Default 331 vs 347

The motor for my 66 FB turned out to be a 302 instead of the advertised 289 so being the reasonable person that I am I'm going to stroke it. I'd like to hear from others who are running strokers. Mainly the pros and cons of both the 331 and 347. I'm leaning to the 331 but I'm still undecided. I'd like to hear the thoughts of others on the subject. The motor will be topped with ported 351W heads and a tri-power and driven mainly on the street. Thanks for the help. Also cam recomendations would help too. Thanks again.

Mike

The 347 due to the longer stroke pushes the pistons to the bore sidewall, this reduces ring life and increases oil consumption. In terms of longevity a 331 is a better choice.

There was some disscusion on this in another thread. But I agree with GTRaptor. With the power that a 347 can make, using a stock block would be pushing it, more so if ever using a power adder.(Assuming that is what you will use) I chose the 331. It is amazing!

I'm going the 331 route with my 83 when I get a chance to tear it down. The power form a 347 is awesome and devastating to have, but the stroke issues don't make it feasible for longevity. I want to do either a Twin Screw blown or Twin Turbo 331, haven't made up my mind for sure yet.

Again I'm leaning toward the 331 too, but I have a concern. From what I've read the 331 uses rods from a four banger. First is that correct and if it is how tough are they?

They dont use rods from a 4 banger, thats only for "home made" cheap stroker kits
You can get forged rods from most stroker manufacturers.

Even if you used rods from a 4 banger, you can get those as forged also, and that 4 banger is one tough mother so don't underestimate them.
