Default DIY Methanol Injection

I think this topic has not been covered enough, and might prove to be of use to many of you.

I am thinking on buying SnowPerformance Methanol injection kit, but i am looking at other options such as MAKING your own kit.

So far this is some info i gathered (srtforums.com by OzSpeed) :

Quote:
Here is my 'unofficial OZ' guide to the cheap ass but works great guide to water injection (and I am not talking about water spraying an intercooler):

Parts needed:
1) External fuel pump from an 88 ford F150 (about $30 new)
2) boost controlled switch (Hobbs switch - available from Napa $24)
3) 'Cold start' fuel injector from an 80s VW or Audi ($5 at pick your part)
4) Braided #4AN hose (or high pressure fuel line)
5) 1/8" NPT to 5/16" hose fitting
6) Relay
7) on/off switch
8) msc wiring

1) drill a hole in bottom the stock windshield washer resevior. Tap for 1/8" NPT and insert hose fitting (a bit of epoxy helps to ensure no leaks)
2) Mount fuel pump in inner front facia near the resevior (remember a fuel pump likes to push, not suck!)
3) Run hose from resevior to inlet of pump.
4) Run hose from pump to the inlet pressure pipe (cold side of intercooler before the throttle body)
5) Mount cold start injector in the pressure pipe (NOS did a study - best place to introduce gas/NOS/water/etc is 6" before the TB for best atomization). I threaded the injector and screwed it into place. There are mounting holes on the injector that could be used as well.
6) connect hose from pump to injector
7) Wire up the relay (fused power from battery, ground)
8) Wire up the boost switch - use only a boost source from the UPP (or a boost vacuum source with a one way check valve - the switches DO NOT like vacuum!) Use a switched 12v source (you do not want the injection system to engage when the engine is not running!) with the on/off switch in line so you have control over the whole system
9) Wire the boost switch to turn on the relay.
10) Wire the relay to turn on the pump and the injector

Done! You now have a system that will NOT siphon into the intake system (the injector is a positive stop).
Adjust the boost switch to turn on at the desired boost - I use about 12psi

Most people prefer using regular windshield wiper fluid, and I am one of them. A good, non-flammable mixture of alchol and water.

You could use this system in conjunction with the stage 2 and high octane switch without using 100 octane fuel!

Wow man, I never in a million years would have thought this one up. Good job Rob.

Well, i found a used VW cold start injector ($20), so its just a matter of finding a pump that has about 40-50 psi (3-4bar).

Sounds like an easy project for almost everyone.

Umm what about an external electric fuel pump from an older Escort or something like that? Shouldn't they push that mush pressure?

Isnt the escort pump "in-tank"?
We need to use an external pump, since intanks require gas to cool them. Might not be a big issue for ocassional use, but what if you want the pump operating for a long time, say an extended trip or road race?

The article mentions an 88 F150 pump , maybe thats an external one...ill check

I can't remember if the first Escorts with EFI had an intank or external pump. I want to say external for some reason though.
