I love late 70's cobras buddy of mine from high school had a 77' cobra i believe sleeper lookin body/wheels but man whe he raced or "showed off" that thing would fly no idea on power but he could smoke em' in every gear with the stock tires too bad he wouldnt let anyone see under the hood atleast his prey lol and it was an aged car i graduated in 96' bought the mustang i have now bach then
Ok 1 more ? If i cut my flowmasters off an had strait pipes would that help gain power???????????????
Straight pipes will help a bit with mid and high end torque but a lot of what you will see is a "mental" increase. "Louder equals faster" sort of thing.
If you ever remove your intake manifold, take your die grinder and polish the intake runners until they gleam. It will be a good 5-7 hours of steady work. When you are finished polishing the inside, clean it until it is spotless. You *really* don't want any flakes of residual metal falling off, into your engine.
As long as you have your intake off, might as well take off the heads and have them polished and ported and have the block decked at a machine shop. Now, when you put it all back together, you have a higher compression ratio and much better flow into and out of your engine. More power, certainly. Better gas mileage probably, if you can keep your foot out of it.
See page 119 in "How to Build Max Performance Chevy Small Blocks". It's the same procedure for a Ford. Or you can send the intake manifold out to have it done for about $220. Decking the block <$200. Polishing and porting the heads <$300, I would guess.
Carol Shelby is reported to have gotten just under 300 horsepower out of a 2.8 liter Ford Pinto engine with that system of polishing/porting/decking and he says anyone can do it. I hope he doesn't mean "anyone like me" can do it.

Im not in support of that idea...unless all you do is race. Other than that, you'll face alot of tickets, and get alot of unwanted attention from police. And dont be surprised if your neighbours start to throw things at you,
