Default Regulator question

So I have a 1998 3.8 V6 mustang. I just read the specs and saw that there is in fact a regulator at 115-118 mph. does anyone know of any 'easy' way to remove/modify the regulator without spending 500 for a chip? Thanks.

There is now way to by pass it around the computer. You car has a vehicle speed sensor and the computer uses this for various calculations. So, the only way to by pass it is a new limit, or no limit at all. I am not sure if your 3.8 has a flashable computer or chip, but thats what must be changed

A tuner can remove that. There is an excellent chance that you could go to Ford, next time you are in for service and (a 12 pack helps grease the skids, quite well, in my experience) tell them you are taking the car to the track. Can they please remove the software speed limiter? Your car is not in warranty so they don't care about that. Unless they can't, physically do it, I would think there would not be a problem.

They might make you sign a form saying you are going to race the car to absolve them of any liability.

You, of course, will sign the form.
