what do you have done to your car? what kind of tires are you running? I usually launch at 2500 - 2700. That seems to be ok. If you have Drag Radials go to 4500 - 5000. it jsut all depends on the mods to your car. by the way what was your best time, and best 60'?

I figure since I'm at the track, I'm on fly paper. So I just slip the clutch pretty hard at 4000. I was trying 2500 the first time I went. Now I learned to launch at 4000. 4000 seems to be a pretty good number. But don't drop the clutch!!! You'll churp the tires, and fall flat, or you'll burn em all the wat through first. It worked good for me

2500 isn't in your power band... 3500 is where your power band starts... Launch at 4000 and you have a 500 rpm buffer. Trust me. Think about it. Plus,4000+ you have a **** load of power. I tried 2500 at the track and it didn't work for crap. It was just too far out of the power band. You wanna launch in your power band, otherwise what's the point? Your gonna bog and then start moving. Your gonna lose a lot of time. Don't be afraid of breaking stuff you won't. That was my problem, I was afraid of breaking something. Don't trip and launch at 4000. Just do like I said and slip it hard, don't drop the clutch!!!!!

* DO NOT TRY THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE BUILT *... ok now that I have disclaimer hehehe.... when my car was N/A I would launch @ 5400 on BFG drag radials and cut consistent 1.7/1.8 60's

This resulted once in bending driveshaft, blowing the spider gears out of the case and also breaking both stock 28 spline axles right at the splines. LOL... that's why I have the disclaimer.

Second time after new stock rear resulted in left stock axle broken @ spline. I then upgraded to Moser 31 spline hardened axles, custom differential and rear girdle.

Bottom line... launch at whatever rpm you feel is best.

Default Proven launching methods

A Mod motor car is a little tricky to launch for sure. There is a fine line between spinning and bogging. A good proven method is to slip the clutch from around 2000-2200rpm while gently squeezing the gas. You should be WOT about even with the tree. If you spin too much you can sometime ease up on the gas and salvage a decent run but if you bog your toast! I've made 15 runs with my car using this method and run very consistant 60's on stock Goodyears. On the run in my sig I pulled a 2.08 60'. BTW, I've never tried a 4000 rpm launch so I can't comment on that, but it would apear to abuse the clutch quite a bit. Good luck and have fun, your car has more potential that you probably think.

The best rpm to launch at is 4000 rpm in 5.0 Mustang *(50mustangandsuperfords.com) they did a drag test on a 02 GT after a drag test the car didnt start pulling until 3500 rpm so they staring sliping the clutch at 4000 rpm and there best 60 was a 2.222 and a 14.218 at 98.06 the track conditions were bad and it was hot and humid I haven"t had a chance to take my car to the track because it closed 3 weeks after I bought my car and it rained the whole last weekend it was opened so know I have to waite until next year so if you try that out keep me posted on how it goes THANKS
