Exclamation bypass smog pump 5.0 HO

Hi, last summer I remove the cathalytic converters off my 86 mustang... I cut the hose coming from the smog pump to the converters now I can heard it compressing air(it's really anoying)... What I need to do to bypass the pump ( I know I will need a shorter belt but other then that?) Do I need to plug something or my stang will run good as is...
PS what is the belt size i will need?

Just take a string and run it around you pulleys to get a rough estimate of length. If I am not mistaken it has been like 8 yrs since my 86 but I think it is about 4 inches shorter without the smog. Also u can totally remove the pump and cut off the pipes and leave the ends that bolt up the the back of the heads and crimp off the pipes and weld them shut.

So if I don't removed the hardware (pump and pipes) will it make a difference....or it's better to take everything off(performance wise)?

Weight savings and ability to get to your plugs and other parts easier. So take everything off I did on my 86 and had so much more room to work under the hood.

If you wish to retain your stock belt size. There are also smog pump delete pulleys on the market too.You just bolt it in place of where your pump used to be and toss the belt back on.

If you have emissions testing, you prob need to keep the smog pump. But if you remove the pump, pull the lines and plug the back of the head and then just shorten the belt. make sure anything you take off has been blocked off where it came from.
