A supercharger produces the well known "whistle" when you get on the throttle.
Some mods you may look into doing so you can get all of the performance out of the s/c is:
Upgrade to an increased size Mass Air Flow Sensor, Throttle Body, and Cat-Back Exhaust System.
This way the air flow can travel much quicker through the engine and out the exhaust.
Depending on the condition of the engine you may want to think about rebuilding the engine with durable race-proven parts.
If you know that the car's engines been beaten pretty badly rebuild it before you install the supercharger because the seals may blow. But if it's been treated well install the supercharger but make sure you keep the s/c boost down because on an old engine, the more boost it has the more risk you'll have of blowing your head gaskets.
Just make sure your s/c is properly tuned (Timing, Air/Fuel Ratio, and No Detonation)
If you do decide to rebuild your engine, I suggest visiting
http://www.moranav6racing.com/, he makes engine stroker kits with all the necessary hardware to support a s/c. But mainly he's got a massive selection between 4.0-4.4L strokers to get some more horses out of your 3.8.
