Does anybody use water injection any more? If not, why?

It was a little fad way back in the late 70's to early 80's. Primarily it was used to combat pinging. The set up was mainly used for carb applications because fuel injection was not widely used yet.
Once they went to fuel injection and computer controlled timing, pinging is just about a thing of the past.
So would it be similar to having a fuel with a higher octane rating? I say this because I have heard that you can get more power out of the engine. The water breaks down into hydrogen and oxygen creating a bigger bang in a hot engine(like spraying water on a realy hot BBQ. The flames will leap out of the BBQ) Some of the planes on WWII used it as a power adder. They stopped using it beacause the pilots tended to use it too much and would melt the engine.
I have read up on the subject. A 2/3 water and 1/3 ethanol mixture creates the biggest bang for the buck. Most of the windsheild washer fluids contians that mixture faily closely. To me this sounds like a way to make some horse power, cheaply.

Yes, you are also right it does give you some horsepower and it will cool down those hot spots in the combustion chamber so pinging will be minimized too!

There is a better kit out there to run with alot more safety features but the set up kicks butt! I saw a guy here in denver with a blower set up and built engine using that same system, dyno 652rwhp. He set a record at the shop for stangs! Check it out www.dynopro.com
93 Cobra, Snow is the name. I'll be using this system this summer Cheaper than nitrous and much safer and better
