hey all! new to the forums and just looking for advice on purchasing an 01 GT coupe. Currently looking at this https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/cto/5680120211.html and just wondering what other peoples opinions on this would be, pricing wise and part wise
Welcome. I realise that we are talking Canadian money here, but 14k seems to me to be a lot for an `01 GT, even with his upgrades. On that car, you have no idea of how the paint is as it is covered by wrap. As for parts, there are a zillion available for the new edge cars. I would also be skeptical about the no burnouts/racing thing & having the rear end rebuilt. Just my opinion. Good luck with your decision.
How did he get 340 HP out of it with bolt-ons? That's impossible.
I also think $14,000 seems WAY out of range, but I don't know what that turns into for U.S. dollars. Here, this car would be worth about $5,500 to $6,000 as it's listed in the ad...and that's if you like that appearance it's been given. A lot of folks wouldn't.
Good luck with it. I'd go over all the mechanical things twice before buying just to be sure.
Too much money. The bulk of his $13k went toward the 20" wheels and invisible bra labor it seems. He said the car was "dead and a dyno tuner got it running and it made 340 at the crank." A), a dyno tuner probably isn't going to get a non-running car running, B.) ask him why it wasn't running, and C), he says it makes 340 at the crank, which would be like 290 at the wheels. Dyno tuners don't measure at the crank if the motor is in the car, and I don't see it making 290 rwhp w just a cai, exhaust, and pulleys. Then he states that it has a Diablo tuner. So was it dyno tuned or was it tuned with El Diablo? Ask him for the dyno graph. It also has a new transmission and a new rear end, so I'm assuming that the originals crapped out at one time and have been replaced. If the trans and rear end went out its more thank likely because they were thrashed on. Then there's then vinyl wrapping here and there. I'm thinking that probably the parts that were wrapped were needing paint so he had areas wrapped vs painting the whole car. He also said that he was the 3rd owner and that he bought it from a dealer. The dealer might have bought it at an auction barely running.
I dunno, I'd keep looking. 98k kilometers is what like 68k miles? That's not a lot kilometers for a car to have had the transmission replaced and the rear end rebuilt. It's either had a hard life or its a lemon.
Thanks for the detailed replys guys! I'm def gunna take a pass on it. Finding a GT or mach 1 up in BC isnt the easiest thing. Specially with our horrid canadian money. Thanks all!
Too much for being naturally aspirated in my opinion. Not to mention, a lot of those "performance enhancing mods" don't go very far without some form of forced induction.
