Default NASA and the American Iron Series!

Hey guys this American Iron Series is really something. NASA really has something pretty cool going on here. Hopefully this forum will help get the word out and keep all of us Mustangers up to speed on whats happening and how we can participate in future events.

If you get a chance to check out one of these upcoming events, go for it! It is an absolute blast. All of the upcoming 2003 American Iron Racing Series events are in our AFM Events Calendar so keep an eye out for the next one in your area. Better yet, check into entering your stang for a weekend on the track. My thanks to Mike Austin, from NASA, for taking me out with him in his 1998 Cobra, in one of the many sessions he participated in this past weekend.

Last weekend's season opener at the California Speedway in Fontana was a full 3 day event. Unfortunately I was only able to make it on Sunday but what a day at the track that was! I am already looking forward to attending their next event. Attached is a picture of the 5.0 Mustang Magazine Red Mustang, a few minutes before heading out on the track. As you can see, it was also quite sunny

So who else do we have that has an interest in this kinda stuff?

They run all over the place, check the schedule. I think they have something up at Sears Point. The weekend was great, now I know what my next project is... to build a car to enter in the American Iron races.

Howdy, Folks! It was great fun to meet Scott, Twister and the Newfoundlander Roger. Scott and Roger rode with me for around 20 minutes each in N.A.S.A.'s High Performance Driving Event, and two more satisfied riders I've not seen. In my slightly modified '97 Cobra we'd kiss 120 MPH on the long, banked curve. Threading between two stacks of tires in a dog-leg turn at 80 MPH is also a rush!

There was a local paper, The Press-Enterprise, there who's coverage of Sunday is at http://www.pe.com/localnews/sanberna...09.a1ae7.html/

Super2NR TV, airing on TNN, was also there. The production guy I talked to said they'll have a segment on what they shot airing sometime in the coming weeks. Super2NR shows at 12:30 PM on Saturdays an 12:00 PM on Sundays and they were invited by one of the racers.

Rock ON! The car show was wonderful, and Orange County Mustang Club did a fabulous job. I especially like Scott's photo of president Frank Morales' little Hottie, er, uh, Cobra.

For anyone within driving distance of N.A.S.A. events east or west, the sound of the exhaust, the sight of the American Iron racers, and driving your car at your limit is simply intoxicating. It's also legal. When I hit 120 MPH one night in my former '91 LX on the street, I got uncomfortable and started looking for racing.

Yes we do... need to get involved with the HDPE frist, but I would like to move on up to AI. Right now all I have to run in the HDPE is my 95 Supercharged V-6, would that be OK to start with?

Ron-

The Blown Sixpack is fine. People have run anything from Hyundais to Lincoln Town Cars to Lambo's in HPDE so you will be OK.

H*LL Ya!

I have instructed two students in Lightnings - one a 351w and one in the Supercharged 5.4L - both rode awesome!

So a SuperV6 should do nice...
