coil over runs a shock inside of a coil and it helps more for autocrossing and tight turns... its a good setup if you want to swap it over. most times it takes new parts which can get expensive.. and never go with an "ok" cheap brand.

With coilovers, the coil spring surrounds the strut and is therefore located farther out on the A-arm than the stock spring. That gives it a mechanical advantage (longer lever) and allows the use of a lighter weight coil spring to achieve the same spring rate. The coilover setup also permits easy adjustment of ride height, by use of a threaded collar on the strut that can be turned to raise/lower the spring perch.

So the main advantages are: more efficient springs, lighter weight front end, and adjustable ride height. Racers also like them because the lightweight springs are cheap. They keep several sets with different spring rates to match track conditions.

Disadvantages: If you run wide tires you may run into clearance problems between the tires and the coilover springs.

When you say Wide tire could you explain. The reason I ask is that I will eventually put 18" saleen wheels and tires under my 02 GT. Then I would like to lower it.

Also, what is the ride quility like on the street after all this. Will it ride smoother than a stock GT or will it knock out all you teeth if you hit a bump?
