Question Cheap performance?

Hey everyone,
I have a 04 Mustang GT 40th An., it has an ignition booster, aftermarket air filter, lightened pullys, and H-pipe back exhust (and whatever else it has extra that the other owner put on it that I dont know about, he told me it was ready for a supercharger to be put on but I dont know if I can trust that). What all can I put on that is cheap, or kinda cheap that will make it go! I have noticed that it tops out at 130 or 140 Mph but the RPMs are around 3000, is there something I can do to change that and make it go faster? I also wanted to put old school-like/dragstyle wide tires on it, that will stick out past my finders... is there a limit and what is it?

Thanks for all the help!
Jamie

P.S. My friend has a WRX and put about $5000 in it, and it can get up to 180Mph... Its a lil four banger and I was thinking mine will cost less (cuz its twice as big) to get it to beat a stock Z06 like his.

I would check on you local laws on how far a tire can stick out of the fender well. You wouldnt want to spend all that money and end up paying a ticket!!!

the law up here in Alaska is it has to have some kind of mud flapps or finders... which i was goin to try to find those plastic finter extenders that fit on truck for the car and just paint them the same color.... but my buddy (the one with the WRX) also has a murcury comet (i dont know what year) and his tires on it are like 12 or 14 in wide at least and cops have no problem with. its a small town here they dont care about alot of stuff like lighting or subs, plus we dont hav IM here so i can run without a cat if i wanted to.

Put a shorter gear in the rear end.

No it can't

You will need about 500+ rwhp to go as fast as a Z06. That would cost you about $12,000. Your car is a lot less areodynamic and weighs a lot more.

what kind of shorter rear end gears? and i raced the WRX last night and we were exactly neck n neck and i pulled away from him in 4th gear then after i hit about 120 or 130 he just kept gaining speed were as i slowed down... and i drove it too there is almost no turbo lag... but it got up to 160 easy and still was gaining speed at a steady rate. the take off it fast due to it being AWD but it wasnt super inpressing like the z06 i race and was winning... till i shifted into 2nd gear. then it just wasnt a race anymore

4.10's or 3.73's will do. The WRX won't last up to 180mph with only 5K in it. He's just probably reading what it says off his gauges lol. The WRX is great from a dig because of the AWD as everyone knows already but their torque curve fall flat on it's face and that's where the Mustang shines and therefore we can take advantage of the race.

If you can't hit the rev limiter in 5th gear (which you can't get close to doing) then your car will go faster with a shorter rear end gear.

For example, when I got my 07 I did the math with the 5th gear ratio, the rear end ratio and the tire height. In theory my car could go something stupid like 211mph. And that is just not going to happen. Bone stock I doubt the car will go 150.

Your take off will be quicker from the fact that gears act like a torque multiplier so you'll feel the performance down low. This will make your normal driving fun

You can calculate what gear to run backward from what you want your cruising RPM to be on the freeway at whatever speed you like to drive at. For example I geared my car to turn 2400rpm's at 80mph.

You will need the rear tire height in inches. This is as easy as just going outside and measuring it. Get close to perfect though. a 1/4 inch will make a difference in the final calculation.

Then you will need the final drive ratio in the trans. I think I found mine on Google in about 5 minutes.

Then the cruising RPM you want to crusie at.

Then you just plug all the numbers into a gearing calculator and it will tell you what rear end ger will suit your needs the best. I have a link to a good calculator but it's in my laptop. I will need to go find that for you.

I went with a 3.55 but my tires are probably shorter than yours are and I am almost certain that my transmissions final drive is different too. If you go with 3.55's your crusing RPM will be different than mine and could be a lot different.

You need to do the math with your #'s
