Default Hey

Hey fellas,

Do any of you drag race your cars or strictly road race? Is there a nice combination that I can setup to do both?

With our suspension setup and tires they don't work very well on the drag strip....though I am going to take my car down to our local dragstip for giggles later this summer just to see what it will run...

Brad-

Most of us road race only as the setups require vastly different approaches to suspension tuning.

With that said, we did take an AI car to the drags once. We ran against an Audi S4 Avant with big boost and we beat him by a fender. Both cars were squeezing and it was around a high 11-second run.

I think you could build a car that isn't too bad at either venue by mixing in alot of adjustabilty with coilovers and D/A struts and shocks, but you're always going to be a little compromised.

Brian-

Love the pic! Very appropriate! ;-)

Dual purpose cars are always a compromise, and racing in a series like AI/AIX competitvely requires that you minimize compromises. We run stiff springs, special shocks, and suspension geometries that are very bad for drag racing. Last time I was at the strip I ran something like a 13.5@118mph, or something like that. Tons of MPH, but no ET. Once it's rolling though....

Brad,

I've heard many times that it is much easier to drag race a road race car than to road race a drag car.

If you want to do both I would lean towards the road car.
