I own a 1992 Mustang Convertible is a 5.0 with a Lentech Automatic transmission. While the engine is basically stock I have made a number of upgrades elsewhere. Here is a list of modifications to date: Modifications List

I have also purchased but not yet installed Maximum Motorsports Torque Arm and front/rear coilover kit.

I am now thinking of installing a roll bar so I can start off start taking HPDE school, pass the licensing test and then HPDE racing while I finish off my 1989 coupe.

What do you think? Would my 92 ragtop be OK for HPDE? I am worried about it being an automatic, even though it is a Lentec and wondering what else I would need to do before putting her on the track?

It will be tough, but you can do it. I used to hotlap my '90 LX with an auto and I put my Lincoln LS on the track from time to time as well. It will make you an expert at left-foot braking and you will just have to time your downshifts to avoid any nasty surprises mid-corner.

It won't be fast, but there's no reason you can not learn the basics with an auto... Make sure you turn off overdrive. Frankly, it's probably a good way to get used to everything else around you before worrying about skills like heel-n-toe downshifting.

Thanks John, I was thinking it would alot more difficult and less fun than a manual transmission. Even with a Lentec, with overdrive delete and which I can manual shift, I figure it would be real hard on the transmission as well.
