Default Road race, what tires?

Alright well im going to be racing my 65' shelby(full out gutted race car) next weekend in a time attack type event. usually i run with svcda and such and am limited to Bias ply tires. but with this event i am going to be running with a lot of new car and such but also can run any kind of tire i want.
right now these are the size tires i have on:
Front: 225/60R15
Rear: 245/60R15

i dont think i want to run a street radial. More of a full out race slick. what do you guys recommend in the sizes that would fit? doesnt have to be the exact same size. whatever would be best. i just using it as a refrence point.

I would check TireRack.com and give them a call. they can tell you your options based on what you are looking for. whether it be DOT legal or pure off-road use.
Hoosier's, Kuhmo's, BF Goodrich T/A KD's, Yokohama ADVAN's.

I am very happy with the Toyo RA-1 and the Nitto NT-01. The RA-1 has been replaced with the R888 but I haven't used them yet.
I have also used the Hoosier GAC full race slick. They are very light but do not last long.

I use Kumho V710's. Excellent grip, last a long time, very predictable. I have a hard time getting them up to temp, though.

I'v heard a lot of good things about the new Toyo. I think either one would be a winner.

My buddy has Toyo Proxies and he loves the way they handle.

If Im not mistakin, those are just a mid level all season performance tire, not what I would want to be running on an open course.

nitto nt-01's are very predictable, longer life than most comps and can be used in the rain if need be.

More SCCA and NASA championships are won on Hoosier's than any other tire brand. You can run the A6 which is an autocross tire that heats up faster or the R6 which is a race tire. The Kuhmo V710 is very close in performance and because I can get thme for the wholesale price thats what I run. I've never run on a full race slick but I'm told that they are not worth the extra cost.

you would be amazed at the difference. with full race slicks you are able to carry a lot more speed through the corners. the only draw back will be the price vs the life span. if your somewhat new to racing and have a semi-stock car the v710's,nt-01's or the A6's will be able to give you a big kick in the pants over any street tire
