wheels and tires

i have a 83 hardtop with 4 lugs... can someone tell me what is the widest tires i can get on it.. in frot and back... i would like to get 17" or 18" wheels... thanks

Hi Macno,
On my 79 Mustang 2.3L road racer i run Goodyear Eagles 225/50/15 with a 1/4 in. wheel spacer. Without the spacer the tire rubs on the inside of the tire well on the fronts. The car has been lowered about 2 inches. No clearance problem in the rear.
