Who races their car and what type of suspension/engine do you run?
You all know what I run and I don't like it. It too front heavy That one reason why I went with the torque arm I puts some weigh at the back of the car.
I was thinking of a turbo 4banger and running 5 link rear setup for my next car.

Black,79 Mustang mostly carbon fiber/kevlar body, M-2300-k brake kit, full roll cage, maximum motorsport suspension, custom geared 6 speed, 2 inch rear fender flares, 1 inch front, motor being built (no eta). Looks like the Mad Max interseptor and weighs about 1800lbs w/o motor (450hp 351w installed to move the car around)
Black, 82 Capri RS 5.0L, B303, 1.7 rockers, World 180 heads, +150hp N.O.S, Turbo coupe rear end, T-56(tremec tko would be beter), 80 cobra nose
Run Solo II when I get a chance. The suspension is full Racecraft setup used on the '93 SSC cars. Engine is a mild 300 hp carb'ed 302. Got many parts for a 351 based stroker swap, but still lacking some high dollar piece's, mainly driveline parts. Like a trans that will take the torque, and a rearend that will stay together.
I run autocross events with my car and hopefully some open track events this year. I have the MM k-member setup in my car with koni da's up front. The rear has the MM panhard bar with there road race lower control arms griggs coilovers with koni sa shocks and a parallel four link. I am still in the middle of testing it to see how it works I just switched to the panhard bar from the mumford link that was in car before so I don't have much seat time with the panhard bar. I've had the front in for almost a year and it works really well I am glad I went with it. The motor in the car is a 302 built by ESI racing engines to SCCA A-sedan spec's but I changed it to fuel injection and I put a hydraulic roller cam setup in it.
Do your research on 2.3 weight. The turbo's in stock form weight about the same as a 302. Not to say they can't be competitive just that they aren't as light as you think with the turbo.
I race a 71 Mustang Mach 1 w/ a healthy 351C / milodon road race pan, 700dp, msd, Tremec TKOII, sway bars, urethane strut bushings actually the squeky stuff is everywhere. I was running ESP, and XC? with the Porsche club for track type events. Not sure where the local SCCA will class me. 17x9 wheels all round.
The class I race in allows very few modifications ( NASA's CMC class ). You might be very surprised to see how well you can get a Mustang to handle with a few carefully planned changes.
My race car is a 1985 Mustang GT. Stiffer springs, Tokico 5-way adjustables all the way around, MM panhard bar, with boxed rear upper and lower control arms.
So many people think the first change to make has to be in the front, when it really should happen in the back.
FWIW - my street car is a Vortech-blown 86 GT, very stock suspension ( springs and shocks, but no PHB, no tubular K, etc ). On the road course, it pushes big time. Move to my race car, and it's a very different story. With a stock front suspension, but the PHB in back, that car doesn't push hardly at all. I'm still learning to tune the suspension, but it's not like my street car.
KYB AGX's
Steeda front and rear Sway Bar
Steeda CC Plates
Steeda X2 Ball Joints
Hotchkis Control Arms
Baer Rotors with EBC Red stuff's
245/45/16 Hoosier As303 ( I run 275/40/17's on the street)
I do some Solo and AutoX, and my mods are not many, and unlike what others have.
Global West LCAs, stock uppers, Tokico S&S, MRP 600/160 linear rate springs, steeda A arm offset bushings, poly rack and strut bushings, steeda end links, subframes.
I also run without a rear end swaybar, which incredibly enough makes the rear end very predictable and stable.
Will be switching to adjustable struts and shocks and likely a MM phb/ta next year, or maybe a watts link.

Why don'y come and check us at NASA out. We will have our first 2004 NASA event March 6-7 at California Speedway. There are tons of Mustangs and Camaros driving the track. We have booth race groups (American Iron) and regular HPDE groups.
