Default S197 Mods for Autocross

Hi everybody,
Last weekend I went to my second autocross and it was a lot of fun, but I'm wanting to improve my handling and my grip. I have an 08 V6 and with the mods I have I'm in STX. I have a GT rear sway bar and I'm hoping to get adjustable shocks/struts and some springs in the near future. My car has the stock 16x7 Wheels and I found a member on this forum selling some 17x8's near me here in NC. Would that wheel size help me a lot with grip and less roll in the corners with a slightly lower profile tire? Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Hi. As a general rule, a lower profile tire will always translate into better cornering ability. The reason is there is less sidewall height, so the tire will "flex" less. But in the real world, there are lots of other variables like rubber compound, tread depth, tire inflation pressure, tire temperature, etc. That's why winning isn't just a matter of getting bigger tires. If your rules allow it, have your tires shaved as well. That helps a lot with cornering grip.

Thanks for the response. I've had a lot of fun at the couple events I've been to, but at since I'm already out of stock class I want to get my car handling a little better.
