Default How do I find road race tracks in my area?

How do I find road race tracks in my area? I think there's one in Indy but that is like a 2 and a half or 3 hour drive for me.

You label says IL. Elkhart Lake is in Wisconsin and is a awesome track. I am sure there are some others. List your hometown. NASA also has events all over in addition to SCCA. Start doing local autocross. From there ask your fellow racers where the tracks are. Gets you into the sport and you might make some new friends while you are at it.

Thanks much guys. Also, I would try to make friends with some guys around here, but I can't say I've met any road racers around here, we're all drag racers.

Yeah, good advice guys... definitely check out National Auto
Racing Association at www.nasaproracing.com and also chechout Grassroots Motorsports magazine... at better newsstands, but not found everywhere.

Reality is that you will have to drive to get to decent road tracks no matter where you live, but especially in the heart of circletrack and drag country. There is a great track with lots of heritiage up in the Detroit area, and a nice track in southern Wisconsin where they held the 2003 National SHO club convention in July... check www.shoclub.org for some info.

tune back to this thread and post again and I will try to come up with some additional references.

Aaron, you could also check our Auto Racing Tracks Listings in our Links section to see what tracks are listed in your neck of the woods.

Yeah, I hear ya. If ya really want to be in full race conditions, the Camaro Mustang Challenge group that runs with the American Iron series in NASA is a great entry level, full race conditions group. Check out the websites and touch base with those guys... they are a great group and will tell you how to get started doing open track HPDE sessions and eventually earn your competition license for CMC racing... once you outgrow that group, you can advance into American Iron and American Iron Extreme... more speed, more money, but still amateur RR fun!

Default Road Race track in Ill.

There are two road race track in Ill. right now. The first is in Rockton, IL It's called Blackhawk Farms Raceway. Do a search! The other is called Gateway just across the Miss. river from St Louis, MO There is another one to be built near Joliet, IL. There is sort of one at Route 66 Raceway also near Joliet but it's not used anymore. There were anumber of other track years ago but they are all now closed. Check out an organization called Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs. Their web sit is at (my.execpc.com~mcscc)
I have been racing with them since the 1970's in one form of racing or another. The organization consits of a number of car clubs that band together to put on bigger and better events. i belong to Full Throttle Racing LTD. A link to out club can be found at the MCSCC web site.

One of the clubs puts on an indoor drivers school in Febuary 4 Fridays in a row at a hotel NW of Chicago.

There is also SVTOA a Cobra Mustang club that puts on driving events all over the country. There have been a number of them here in the Midwest, I went to 3 last year!

By the way I live just south of Chicago .
