Default New Springs and Shocks/struts???

I want to get a new set of springs. I already have the Eibach Pro-kit springs, and I want a more aggressive drop but no junky springs. I'm thinking H&R or Eibach sportline. Ride quality is secondary, but I don't want terrible quality. I've heard pretty good things about H&R. Next thing...I need new shocks/struts etc. I've been researching the Edlebrock IAS products and like what I've read. But I don't know any prices...so I'm trying to find the best price on this stuff. Plus I'm open to suggestions.

thanks ,
mattdeez

The Eibach sportlines are SOFT, more for the looks than performance. Ride quality will be close to stock.

H&Rs have a broader selection of rates.
For street only : SPORT F490-575 R250-285 (1.6"F - 1.5"R)
More RR or AutoX oriented: SUPER SPORT F700-760 R275-300 (1.75"F - 1.6"R)

I would definatley select H&R SuperSports, but thats me, the Sport line is more street friendly.

For S&S i would go with Bilsteins, Koni or Tokico Illuminas.

I agree with Rob, but my vote for S&S is the Tokico Illuminas. I have been running them on my 95 for a few years now, and am very happy. With the Tokico's you have the option to adjust them, so you can taylor them to what you are doing. Street use one day, racing the next.

My vote is for the H&R springs. The rate is going to depend on your ability and the ride quality.

Bilsteins or Koni reds for street use. Some track use, the Bilsteins. Extreme track use, Koni yellows.

Bilsteins are self-adjusting. Even if your good, it will be awhile before you can outdrive the Bilsteins.

Matt,
I'm running Steeda's SPORT springs. They lower the car about 1.25" all around and have given me a nice ride for about 2 years now. Not too harsh yet yields much better handling. I would also go with the Tokico Illumina's which will set you back bout 500 bucks for all four. But here's the best part. I'm selling my springs in a week when I install my Griggs suspension setup. If you want I'll sell them to you for $100 plus shipping. You can email me at crowlski@aol.com if your interested. I kid you not, these are nice springs. Not junk.

Matt, I am running Suspension Technique springs with Tokico 5 way adjustable struts and shocks in my 92. I am very pleased with the ride quality and they corner just great. The springs dropped the her into the weeds but nice and level.

Yeah...I truthfully want it to be 'low'...I eventually, when the stang is not a daily driver, will change the suspension to air ride. Fully adjustable, superior ride quality, but I will add all other stiffening components to compensate for the softer ride. But until then I'll get a better spring/shock/strut setup. There is a cobra(96) here at school that has H&R's and looks bad ass and apparently handles well.

So, I'm probably going with H&R's...but still no one said a single word about the Edlebrock IAS shocks/struts. Are they like stupid expensive or something?Suck?Make you less of a man or what?

I have never used the Edlebrock IAS shocks/struts nor have I heard or know much about them. I can tell you that the suspension technique springs I have in my 92 are great and from everything I have heard, I have decided I am going with H R coil overs with Bilstein struts and shocks in my 89.

I have not used them but there is nothing wrong with the Edlebrock IAS shocks/struts. I have been to their shop and seen how they are made. The principle is good, and the shop makes quality stuff. The Edlebrock stuff was not available for my car when I bought the Tokico's and I would have gone with the Tokicos anyway because of the price I paid for them. I would say that you could never go wrong with anything made by Edlebrock.

I want to lower my stang too.....I was thinking the Eibach sportline, with tokico shocks....(not the adjustible ones). I think a 2" drop is good, the 1'1/2 is not really low enough.

My question is do i have to re-adjust any other componet when lowering the car that low?

when you lower the car, other than an alignment, you will want to get either a bump steer kit which extends the drop to the tie rods or offset rack bushings.. these drop the steering rack with the car. One good thing to get would be Steeda's X2 balljoint. They are longer and have a better geometry for lowered suspension. They push them, but most people forget about them. www.steeda.com is where you can read all about it. They also sell Tokico 5-ways with their suspension kits.

Thanks for the info vortex, when you say "aligment" you mean wheel alignment, right?

I noticed on your sig you have a tri-ax shifter....did you installl it yourself and was it easy if so?

Yes, alignment is caster/camber toe-in and all that fun stuff.

Yes the tri-ax I installed. It was very easy and used just common tools.
If you want a more detailed write-up let me know, its basically the same install as the Pro 5.0 shifter in our tech section.
