Well, 6 months ago I bought a plane-jane 1999 Red GT....... We've bolted more parts on it than you can shake a stick at and now I'm trying to get all our new parts to play nice with each other. We've gotten a lot of help from a lot of really good people and we've even been able to get ourselves into this months issue of Mustang Enthusiast.......

All and all I think we're doing pretty well but with a car that started out at 3240 lbs and only 260/300 HP/Tq, we've got our work cut out for us.......
Here's how it looks so far:

Let me know what you think......

Wow, this thread sure has gotten a lot of mileage...

Thought I'd give it a short update:
This project has come a long way. What started has a nice little GT has grown into something that a lot of people find terrifying to ride in. It's not really all that fast (to a person who's used to a good amount of power) but it is a very entertaining experience....

Pictures can be seen here
Video's can be seen here

We are currently competing in the Formula Drift Championship which is the highest level of drifting series here in America. While we only started the "stomping" process (not really but to bring this thread full circle), we are making a good name for ourselves and gaining the respect of the fans and our peers alike... Which in the end is all you can really hope for anyway

Thanks again for all those who contributed to this thread and please stop by and say Hey should you ever see us at the track some day.....

How much did you invest in your suspension set up?

I'm sorry I haven't read the enitre thread so my input may or may not be of value.

I have a ricer track car (civic hatch, 2100 pounds with no weight reduction done yet, 171 hp, and LOTS of suspension)

While it doesn't pull on fast cars in the straights, I piss off a lot of Porsche guys and fast cars in the turns.

I have to tell you though, the one car I could never catch is an old 5.0 mustang. Hes totally gutted with LOTS of work, on R comps (I run azenis) and he trailers it to the track.

I never thought a mustang could turn, let alone absolutely clean up on track, but he made me a believer. Of course, he probably spent a lot of money.

I'd say around $4000 understanding that includes replacing every single part of the suspension with stronger parts that have better geometry.

Performance for the buck the little cars are hard to beat. The Mustang can be made to work but it has to go on a serious diet and you have to work very hard on the suspension... We're not there yet but we're gaining on it...

Thanks!

I own a 1970 Boss pony that has had the complete Boss 302 chassis mods. Ive owned and worked on the car since 1973. The car has held its own in street and autocross in the 34 years that I have owned it. I have been up against German as well as Jap cars. In most cases the car has been competitive and has allways drawn a crowd. I have held true to staying with only modifications that could be made for the 1970 trans am series and for me that has been the most fun. Ive allways enjoyed seeing the 60s tech match up against the later generations. The enjoyment I get comes from the heart pounding all American V8 and bone crushing 4 speed toploader. It is harsh, load, and hot in the cockpit but I would not trade it for all the smooth powered porsches or rice rockets in the world. Build it and run it hard and you will enjoy the ride...
