Default track pads for 2005? (V6) source??

Hi all,

I've been searching for some high-temp track pads for 2005 stang (V6). its pretty easy to find for an '04 and prior such as Hawk HB274, but haven't found any for the '05 (especially/at least front pads).

Any sources for 2005 stang!? track weekend is coming up Feb 26. My son and i are sharing the car so high temp pads are even more essential. I've checked Hawk, and Porterfield.

Thanks,
Stangluvr

I have heard very good things from people about Carbotech Engineering pads for both full race and street/track day applications.

To my knowledge, they will cut a set of pads for your application using any of their compounds. This means that if they do not already have a template/application developed, they will do it custom, but the one time I called them a few years ago, they sounded very reasonable. You would need a little more lead time, but the cost would probably be comparable with other high performance pads such as the ones you mentioned.

I suggest having your Ford stock pad part numbers handy if possible, and giving them a call.

Another route may be to chech your local Autozone and seeing if they have the Performance Friction Carbon Metalic (Not the "Z" compound, as they are too dusty for regular street use). I have first hand knowledge that those pads can handle anything short of full-racing use, and still be good-excellent for daily use in a car weighing 500 lbs more than the new V6. The regular PFCM pads are the best bang for the buck you will find, and just happen to often be in stock at Autozone and come with a lifetime warranty as well.

Make sure to keep fresh, high-temp brake fluid well bled. The Ford high-temp, not the stock Ford fluid, is used successfully by many mustang racers in the American Iron series. Another bang for the buck value compared to Motul and other high-dollar options.

Please post what you found, and how your day went!

The big thing with brake pad companies is getting a backing plate. Once they have this and some measurements, they can make pads for everything. I suspect you might need to wait a few months before they hit catalogs. You may be able to call and order them over the phone. Naturally, you'll have better luck with places where you can talk to the company vs. calling a speed shop. Try Carbotech and Cobalt brakes. You'll probably have the best luck there.
