Default What road racing mods work best for a stang?

Hey guys, I've got a 74 Mustang II I may get into road racing with. I've never actually road-raced a car, but I have always gone to the limits (of my skills and money) with making my vehicle handle better. The vehicles I've modified previously have all been Chevy Camaros and pickups. Just looking for some hints and tips.

Also have a 2003 Dodge Ram (lightly modded daily driver/tow rig/office/dining room/home away from home/workshop... I call it "The Big Blue Dawg".)

for road racing, you'll want sway bar, subframe, and panhard upgrades... im not sure which companies would make them for that car but it doesn't hurt to call the big companies...

There's a great book on the setup of Mustangs of all years . . . I have it at home, I think, and I'll see if I can find it for you .. .

In general, do things in this order:
Chasss stiffening - subframe connectors, maybe other bracing
Suspension - springs, dampners, panhard bar, etc.
Brakes - You will never have too much
Tires - Race tires after you've done all of the above and have taken your street tires to the limit.

Like was said, I don't know what's available for your car in aftermarket parts. Also, with a car that old I'd check the front end to be sure everything's up to par and I'd probably replace lots of bushings.

Brace the chassis and upgrade the bushings first, then note how the car behaves, Understeer? Oversteer? then modify things as needed.

The place to start is probably the rear, using a good set of leaf springs, but use a soft setup and then pair with adjustable shocks to tune it.

If you have understeer then start by installing a larger sway bar.

The hard part will be to find suitable parts, check the Mustang II sites.

"SSM Lift bars are a simple installation. The lift bars replace the shock mounts, rear sway bar mounts, and lower plate under the springs."
Thats from www.mustangii.net
