This saturday went road racing at a training / test track.
The circuit is a small 1 mile road course with the "basic" elements such as a wide radius, a few S's, a hair pin, etc.
The track is used for all kind of hands-on training, from limo driving, basic handling maneuvers, new car tests, etc.
Around 30 of our local mustang club members had a chance to take a few laps on the road course. Each race consisted of 3 cars and a Pace car, all separated by 10 seconds.
This is the kind of place where you really have a chance to judge you car against others cars and abilities. Definately there were some very good cars with all the handling capabilities but with notvery good drivers. But all is done for fun, and no timing was recorded to keep things cool.
I was under impressed by some cars that i thought would perform great. A 2000+ GT, a Cobra and a heavily modified Fox-Saleen clone with a healthy modified 351 and racing suspension with panhard setup.
The guy on the Cobra ended several times on the grass and his maneouvering was very erratinc, like he had a snake inside his pants

I had the chance to test my "oxidized" driving skills and GTRaptor performed flawlesly. I have had previous experiences in Road Racing, Karts and Motorcycles so i am not a complete novice.
Started 10 seconds after the pace car, with two 65 coupes following me.
First lap i did was slow, top speed around 80 on the 1/4 mile straight to take the first left with is a long wide radius that ends on a tight left hand followed by a series of SSS's that finally lead you to the hair pin where the race starts.
At this point the car felt great, very neutral with just a bit of understeer. I then WOT the beast and did around 95mph on the straight but being cautious over the wide radius lefty since it abruptly ends on a tight 90° left turn. The SSs were the "raciest" i went directly over the apex just inches away from the grass. Then once again to the hairpin which slows you down to around 20mph.
On the last lap i had the pace car in sight, probably just 2-3 seconds ahead. That made my day. I was only one of 2 that actually got to nail the pace car after 4 laps.
It was fun but dissapointing to only have a chance to drive a short time. Anyways i had a blast and GTRaptor did what i inteded it to do when i planned my suspension mods.
