I have kumho ecsta 17" tires that cost me around $525 for a set of 4 which included the tire certs (0% interest for 6 months). They seem to perform just as good as my old Goodyears and they're a hell of a lot less expensive. The Kumho's are z-rated and have a equivalent tread rating to the Goodyears. I planned to buy
Nitto NT 555 Extreme Performance since they have the best tread rating but Discount Tire didnt have them in stock.
Just curious to see what tires others are running with and how's the performance relative to cost???
$117 per tire Nitto: Treadwear: 300 Traction: A
Temperature: A Speed Rating: ZR
$110 per tire Kumho: Treadwear: 280 Traction: A
Temperature: A Speed Rating: ZR
$250 per tire Goodyear: Treadwear: 300 Traction: A
Temperature: A Speed Rating: ZR

I started with the Kumho's P245-40-ZR 18 front and P275-35-ZR 18 rear.
I found them to be great in traction and handling, but very hard in the sidewalls and consequently they gave a very rough ride. I also had problems getting them balanced. I went back repeatedly and found that the tires were out of round when spun on the balance machine. The dealer said that he was suprised at this as he had not seen this on anyone's car before and had sold a lot of Kumho's. Investigation on the internet at the review section of the tire rack indicated that everyone seemed to like the tires especially for the price but I was not that lucky.
I traded my Kumho's in for Nittos. I have the same size in the front but went to a 285-35-ZR 18 in the rear. They ride exceptionally well in my opinion as they have a noticeably softer sidewall. Handling is exceptional and they are round which the Kumho's were not.
The Nitto's are made by Toyo.
Maybe it was just my luck, but I really like the Nitto 555's. I will see how they wear.
Regards, tarPony

Is your main concern getting the longest wear at the cheapest price in a Z-rated tire?
First all, it's pretty much impossible to compare treadwear ratings amongst different manufacturers. There's enough leaway in the testing standards that those #'s won't mean much. Within the same mfg they should be semi-meaningful.
Try checking Tire Rack--what they call the "high performance" or "ultra high perf" (not max perf) categories and see what's on sale. "High perf" should wear better than "ultra high perf" which would wear better than "max perf."
Longer wearing tires won't be quite as sticky as ones with not so good tread wear.
I use Bridgestone RE730s on one Stang; Firestone SZ50s on the other. I would recommend either.
I got some Dunlop SP5000's for 70 dollars a piece at the Tire Rack. NTB was selling 'em for 107 dollars each. Good WR rated tire. I'm happy with 'em so far .. . .
