Default suspension question

I installed some BBK progressive rate springs on my 94 stang. I am looking to add some shocks also. Any recommendations on different brands? Pro's and Con's, any info would help. Thanks

Chris

I have Koni "red" struts and shocks on my 85. They work wonderfull on twisty roads, but they do make the ride a little bit firmer, if you're not too concerned about ride, I'd say go with them. Bilstein makes a self adjusting shock and strut, they are susposed to be a little bit better than koni reds, and do not have as harsh a ride, but I havn't ridden in a car with bilsteins.

Default suspension

I have Tokico's 5 way adjustable on my 95, and they are great. I started with the Monroe GP's and they were just way to harsh. Guess I'm getting too old, I like the softer ride. I have the fronts set to 3 and the rears set to 2, so far it is a nice balance.

I have been running 5 way adjustable tokico's with suspension technique springs for the last five years and love them. They are an excellent shock for a daily street driven mustang. The ability to dial in/tune to your taste is an excellent feature. Even set to the softer settings you will notice a very nice improvement in handling. When I first installed them, I spent a little time playing and adjusting with them until I had the setting the way I liked. Since then I have not readjusted the settings. Its been that long, I don't not even remember what I have them set at. All I know is I really like the handling and the ride is still reasonably comfortable.

As Jessie indicated, the Koni's have a reputation as a great shock but they do stiffen the ride somewhat. If you are really into twists and turns and don't mind the sacrifice to ride comfort then they may be a better choice for you. Bilstein's would also be an excellent choice and they are supposed to deliver a more comfortable ride then the Koni's.

Choosing between the three really depends on your application and how much ride comfort you are willing to give up for the sake of handling. Here's my take on it:

Maximum Performance
1. Koni's
2. Bilstein
3. Tokico (5 way adjustables)

Maximum Comfort
1. Tokico (5 way adjustables)
2. Bilstein
3. Koni

Keep in mind all three are "great performance" shocks and the ratings are just my opinion. I look forward to reading the opinions of others that respond to your post.

Hope this is of some help and good luck with your decision.

Scott,
I would put the Bilsteins at the top of both list.
They are self adjusting for comfort and performance.

But, (someone always puts a but in there) for MAXIMUM performance Koni Yellows. Just put a mouth piece in cause their going to jar your teeth lose.

Tony B.

p.s. I bought the Bilsteins for my Twins (Incon Twin Turbo)

Default Suspension Game

You can check out my website at www.fly-ford.com/ what I have been starting to use are the new KYB Adjustable Struts/Shocks, they work nice and they are not too stiff. But I would like to know what you have done so far to the car and what you intend to do with the car??? Then I could further advise you. I also President of Mustang Owners Club of California & in the March 2002 issue of Mustang Monthly, on page 30 I have another alignment article ( 4 pages )

I too am running the tokico Illumina adj struts and shocks. I agree to go spend the extra $$ and buy adj ones. I first installed them with the stock 16" 55 series tires. When I went to 17" 45 series tires the car bounced all over the place. So I just softened the shocks and all was well. I would have been pissed if I would have had to live with the bounce. I mean it was dangerous at high speeds.
