do you mean any vehicle? I have a P/S Mustang, but when my 1974 Jeep Wagoneer decided to blow a pressure-hose on my pump, it was like the tea cups at Disney turn-turn-turn, but you went too far, so do the opposite to compensate. Newer "cars" will have better steering in that the steering shaft couplings sometimes have been replaced with U-joints therefore more rigid. On a street Mustang that had P/S, there will be a difference, but for a track car, yes because the more you can take off, the better.
so your 79... 5.0? wide tires? i am going to run a manual rack on the capri and am worried about not being able to keep the foam on the steering wheel...
I run "manual" in the 84 bird. I haven't got around to changing to a manual rack but it's 15-1 ratio power rack, with the lines and pump pulled and the holes plugged. It's not un-bearable but it's interesting to drive. I run a 225-60-15 front, 245-60-15 on the rear and it's a bit of a workout

have you changed to a u-joint steering shaft? seems the rag joint might not live up to the abuse? flaming river makes a 15:1 manual rack and it is what i am doing.
so tell me.. parallel parking an option with your setup?
With mine... if you try but I don't. it's all stock, just lines removes, holes plugged and pump removed. It's not a DD, only driven about 50 miles like this. I don't wana chance it

when i was 18 i had a 79 capri, identical to my current one except it had a sunroof, but the power steering went out in it and i ran without for a few weeks. it was REALLY hard on the tilt column and i had to get a new column as a result.
started learning then about an ounce of prevention being worth a pound of cure. but i drove that car everywhere as gas was only $.99 a gallon and everywhere was a long drive
15:1 isnt really quick ratio.
Driving a car with manual steering and driving a car whos power steering went out is not the same, that vehicle needs it. I work at UPS World where we ride in the retired stepvans which ofcourse have manual steering there a *****. When it went out in my truck it was fine till anything under 30.

flaming river makes 2 ratios, 18:1 and 15:1. so by default 15:1 is quick ratio. if you know of anyone building a 12:1 power or manual i would love to know about it.
and we know that a plugged up power rack is not the same, hence the whole discussion on how much fun to drive fila's car is....
Alright.. it's N-rigged but I'm searchin for an early fox stang manual unit. It's a temp thing, and it's not a DD... thats what the POS truck is for
