Default How and what to buy to install XENON HID headlights

Does anyone use XENON headlights? Its it illegal?
And what do you need extra if you purchase headlights fitted with XENON bulbs?

Do not use them but I sure do like them. Yeah I believe they are legal. They sell them at the dealer so they should be ok.

From what I've read of another poster concerning HID lights, the standard housing doesn't reflect the HID lights correctly so just swapping out the bulbs alone to HID is the equivalent to driving with high beens on.

Xenon bulbs come in both standard and H.I.D. versions. Standard xenon bulbs are direct replacements and H.I.D. xenons require a ballast to opertate them. H.I.D. are MUCH brighter. Most are D.O.T. approved so they should be legal. I got a kit of ebay for about $90 and when I got it I noticed it did not include the ballasts so be careful to make sure everything is included. I chose to buy the ballasts from Euro effects EFX because they offer digital ballasts and have lifetime warrantys on most products INCLUDING BULBS. TOO BAD when I got the ballasts only 1 of the 2 worked. I sent it back, they sent another ballast, it didn't work either. I'm pretty sure it was damaged during shipping due to poor packaging. The first replacement ballast came in just days but I have been waiting about two weeks and nothing yet. I called about the second bad ballast and was told to send it back(just like 1st time) and they will send another. I asked if there was anything I could do to get it quicker and was told to ship it and call back with the shipping confirmation and they will ship that day. When I called back a different guy answered and told me he didnt need the shipping conf# he would just ship it. The LAZY Fr sounded half baked, acted like he took my info, hung up and didn't do crap. The one light that works looks great and the bi-xenon high-low beam function works great. If you use the single beam xenon hids you will have to adjust them down a little, not because they are designed wrong, just because they are soooo bright.

Good point never thought of the balasts. I was at a speed shop and had a set of them for sale at some really low price. And now that I think about it they did not come with out balasts.
