Default Bumper to Bumper Racing Stripes

I have a 2000 Mustang GT Convertible, all black with black rims coming soon.

I'm thinking about bumper to bumper racing stripes on my all black mustang convertible by the time its summer. Most likely I am going to go with a polished red color at 10 or 11 inches wide with matching brake caliber colors.

Do you guys think I should get the entire car repainted to have that glossy new car look? Or should I just get the stripes painted alone? Also, do you guys have any tips or details that I should be aware before I go along with this?

Oh, and one more thing. For this with experience, would you be able to tell me the cheapest way to go about this little project. I'm hoping that I won't have to spend anymore than $1500 or maybe even as low as $1000.

1500 may cover the cost of having just the stripes done up, with a good clear coat. In your avatar your stang looks shiny? Red will look sharp!

As far as getting the whole car repainted would be really costly. If your paint is in good shape put your stripes on it. It would look good.

Thank you very much guys. Hey, just curious, how much did you end up spending on your stripes (if you have any)? And do you guys have any perforations on the kind of stripes I should get?

What is vinyl exactly? Seems to be a little cheaper than getting a paint job done. Is it considered to be better or worse than a paint job and how does it look in person? Thanks for your input.

That depends on who you talk to I and Stlwgn had vinyl stripes first, we both had them taken off and painted. For me, I hated them, the look, just did not do for me what I wanted. I could have saved so much time and money by just having them painted in the first place. For the stripes alone, at the shop where I went, my husband was able to do some trade out, so the actual cost of having th vinyls installed, removed (PITA took a few days) and prepped for paint, painted and clear coated was 2,500.00. would have been closer to 1,500.00 if I had just had them painted in the first place. Out of pocket was only 900.00. Thankfully!

What is Vinyl?

look at Baltimore Street Mods
Everyone has their own opinion - the vinyls look excellent... - there are 2 area's I am not happy with and that's not the stripes fault, it was the installers fault... it is more cost effective - they'll last a nice long time (i take care of my car by washing, covering, waxing, etc)... IF I had the extra money just freed up when I bought the car to get painted - I would have... it is also a matter of finding someone you TRUST COMPLETELY WITH YOUR CAR - and after laying out 26/27 for the car, I wasn't going to leave it with just anyone to paint stripes... so had vinyl put on, it give me 8 years or so to find someone I trust to paint em on... lol

Thanks. I think I will go with Vinyl only because it is cheaper. Hopefully after I have fully tricked out my car, I will get it taken off and painted. I can't really afford much because I am only 17 being payed a little over minimum wage lol. Its a lot just having to pay the car off for myself.

Do you guys have any other ideas on decals for mustangs? Ive seen a few with a cool looking stripe that sort of rolls down the sides of the hood as well as bumper to bumper. What do you think of that?

Take a look at Graphic Express for vinyl. I installed a set and they were great. Not hard to do yourself if you follow directions!

I've also used Graphic Express and it is a quality product. The instructions are detailed and very easy to understand. Just follow the instructions completely and it's easy. I do recommend installing the stripes and graphics in a garage away from any wind and another good set of hands to help is also good.
