Wash it really good, make sure no dirt is left. Get some swirl remover or polish, Mother, Mequires are a couple. Go to work, not to agressive the black will show a lot. When you get done put a good coat of wax on. Most small scratches will not be noticed with just a good wax job.

I'd clay the surface first before using any scratch remover. It's important to get the surface totally clean before you do anything. Claying seems to be the only way to do that. Then do whatever you want for fixing scratches and filling in stone chips. Then polish, wax, etc.

A good wax, like DuPont Teflon will make it gleam.

You would be surprised what the clay bar will clean up. That is the best thing on the market as far as I am concerned.

Wow at that first picture! Can you pick up some of that stuff just at any auto parts store?

I agree with the use of a clay bar. Easy to use, just make sure it's well lubricated as you run it across the paint and don't drop the bar on the ground. When I got my '86, it had so much environmental debris on the paint that it felt like 60 grit sandpaper to the touch - no word of a lie. I used the clay bar and the result was like night and day. So as far as a spring cleaning is concerned...

- wash and dry
- clay bar - Maguires
- paint cleaner - 3M
- finishing polish - 3M
- hand glaze - 3M
- 2 coats of wax - Maguires

...and Bob's your uncle. Just be careful not to be too aggressive with your polisher - especially if you don't have any clearcoat like me.
