Default How to get rid of body paint scratches...

Anyone know how to get rid of paint scratches other than repainting all the parts? I dont want to spend over a grand just to get rid of a few unsightly lines on my stang...

Well i dont think i could buff them out if thats what youre wondering. The worst ones are fairly deep and on the hood theres two small chips. They do catch a fingernail when i run it over... the scratches that is. There are actually quite a few and they vary in depth and length. The worst are two lines on my drivers side door where someone keyed it... but they arent too bad. Still, cant buff em out.

If they're through the clear you're not going to have much luck. Might be able to wetsand but that might even be a stretch.

Yup, if the scratch is thru the clearcoat, you'll have a job on your hands. Wetsanding might be the answer but it's not a process to be taken lightly - and is probably best left to the pros.

Do some research and see where your comfort level is - and by comfort level I mean if you mess it up, is it the end of the world! Worst comes to worst, you'll have to get it repainted anyway

There's a product called QUIXX that works on some pretty deep scratches...I had someone key my car, and it worked, after a light wet sand and two applications, then a polish and wax. You'd never even know that I had the problem!

Quixx sounds like it works good. I saw that they sell it in Walmart.

If you need to touch-up, there are some products they sell at langka.com that helps you smooth out the blob. I hear it's a bit of an art form to use it, but on some colors if the match is good, you can barely see it when it's done. They have some demo videos.

If you contact a few local body shops you can probably find a guy that does same day touch up work for them... a contractor similar to the ones that do paintless dent repair.

Likely you can get the stuff that isn't on the hood done in slight spots for pretty cheap, but if the damage is on the hood spot repainting won't do much good because the spot will be noticable.

Good Luck!
