Default Dos and Don'ts for new paint? (hood)

The hood on my 05 was repainted a week ago due to corrosion. The man who painted it told me not to wax or polish for 3 months.(That might kill me. I'm a loyal Zaino user, and I'm spoiled to that shine!) I try not to ever drive in the rain, and the car lives in the garage. He said I can wash the car anytime. He did mention something I've never heard before. He said that because the car is black, and garaged, the new paint may experience some "milky hazing". He said many show cars do this, something about being cool in the garage, then quickly heating up in the hot Texas sun, then cooling again. Anyone know anything about this? He did tell me that if this becomes a problem I should let him know, and he would work it out.(buff or something, I don't remember)

Anyway! Any advice for my new, nonfactory, non baked on paint?

Default New Paint

I would talk to him about any "milky hazing". This is something that he should stand behind his work with a repair if it happens.

I would follow his instructions, particularly if you will expect him to make good on any problems over the next 3 months.

Did he color sand the hood as part of the job?

+1 I've not ever heard of that, but it's been a lot of years since I painted a car.

haven't heard that before either. just got part of my hood painted black about a month ago. i was told 6 months before wax buts said the quick detail stuff would be fine.

something that did happen tho is that when my car was sitting in the sun while it was just below 100 a day after i got the car back the black paint cracked. he fixed it tho hasn't cracked since

He was very clear on the milky hazing-Get the car back to him and he'd take care of it.He really didn't know why it sometimes happens, just that it will every now and then.(rare) My hood looks great so far.

Color sand? If that's the same as wet sand, then yes. I actually watched a bit of it from a distance.

In the right light,if you turn your head a bit, you can see about three little, tiny, bubble spots. (like the head of a pin) When I'm in the area of the shop, I'll stop by and have him take a look.(it's 20 minutes from my home)

He did a GREAT job on my vinyl stripes, they are better than the original ones. Both sets of stripes were bought from a Ford dealer. He said they are of a really good quality, better than many he'd seen.(a Shelby GT was in the shop, and he thought my stripes were much better made)

Thanks for the replies.

Cracked paint? I'm glad you had it taken care of. I'll be on the look out for sure-it gets REALLY hot around here!

The bubble spots are probably just trash in the paint from not painting in a perfectly clean environment. Some trash was described to me to be "industry standard" but you don't have to live with it. My paint guy cut them off by wet sanding and then machine buffing and polishing. Took about 10 minutes to get 2 spots off my front fascia. The paint was suprisingly more resiliant then I thought!
