Default stay away from mcguires polish

I have an 08 GT. I decided to polish my car. I stripped the wax and used mcguires polish, I use all mcguires, I then waxed it. It left what i would call a mirage. maybe I did wrong. Just to let you guys and gals know. The rest of mcguires products seem good.

Wow that's weird, I just did my first claybar using all Mequires products, turned out awesome. Wonder if the product you got was bad. That's crazy and very frustrating after all that work!!

What other products did you use prior to using the polish - or wax? Let us know the exact name of the products(s) you used!

Thanks!

I'll give a look see when I get home tonight. I know the polish was step two in their 3 step process. Maybe it was the applicator pad I was using. All the other products of theirs I use are great!

Default Polishing compound

Application of their polishing compound series is different from the simple waxes and such. They also have a line that goes up to 12 steps (I think, might be even more) in which the #2 would be a quite heavy grit, designed to be used for pretty bad scratches or prep work for a paint job. I would NOT recommend these products for simple maintenance.

Mcquires' "safe for clear coat paint jobs" polishes are very different from the heavy duty pro series used by car restorers and body shops.

I have seen these items mixed in with their regular line at some auto shops, so I would suggest reading the labels carefully.

To the OP, if you DID use the heavy grit item, you'll need to apply the rest of the steps (probably at least 3 other grits, plus a chemical polish for the final polish, plus a sealer and a wax).

First rule of thumb never rush through doing something like that. I would do it over and this time maybe buy yourself a clay bar and really make it look nice. Keep us updated.

If you start all over when you have a good day to do it - and follow the steps and instructions... I am thinking you'll have excellent results.

Was the car hot or did you wax it in the sun this could be the reason. It is a 3 step product did you do step one?

I have used the Meguires 3 step system for many years. On my black vehicles it has always worked for me with great results. Maybe your paint needed the first step of the cleaner before the polish. I wish I could find the paste wax, used as step 3, haven't seen it around in a few years because I have had good luck with it

Did you use microfiber cloths ? I always use a clean cloth and shake it periodically during a detailed wax.

After my car came back from paint I used Ice paste polish, then went over it with Meguires Pro grade #26 pure carnauba wax.Worked great, now about every 2-3weeks I alternate between the two.Has a nice deep glossy finish, almost looks wet.Never had a problem with Meguires products.
