That is why I only had one black car, LOL. Most car "wax" now don't contain any wax, they usually are made from polymers.
I really don't know of anything that will repel dust. I use Turtle wax paste and liquid ice which seems to keep the surface smooth enough to keep most dust away, and I live on a dirt road.

I see I already knew what you were going to ask before you asked it.

Default Looking for a product to repel dust

Hi,
Can anyone suggest a product that I can put on my car after washing, to repel dust? My mustang is black, and dust seems to settle on it and make it look dull within an hour of washing it... then just 1 little rainfall for 10 seconds or so, and all that dust turns to spots all over the hood and trunk lid.

I have already polished it and waxed it in the last few weeks, and I use Meguiars ultimate detailer after a regular wash... but that doesnt seem to repel the dust...

I also read that waxing it actually attracts dust, because it heats up in the sun and becomes sticky...

Thanks for any info.

Dan.

I'm just as interested in this as anyone, as I have a black mustang myself.

All I've been able to find is brake dust repellent.

I think it has to do with the sites servers not being in sync.

I dont think there will ever be a such thing as a "dust repellent". Dust particles will stick to any pours on your paint surface, and any nooks and crannys they can grab. The best thing you can do to keep dust off your paint, is to use meguires show car glaze which is a pre-wax treatment that fills in all the imperfections in your clear coat. Then top it off with a high quality carnuaba wax, such as a meguires or Zymol. The dust will just roll right off most of the time.

Isn't there something that would give the paint/body a positive (or maybe it's negative) charge, that would repel the dust particles with the same charge?

Kind of like how one of those air purifiers works, but neutralizing the charge of the dust particles in the air, and making them drop....

I once owned a '89 Black GT for about a month and a half...I just couldn't keep it clean. I would use the California Duster all the time and Quik Detailer and a couple hours later it would be "dirty." I then traded it in for another '89 dark red GT and no more problems. Dark blue is also another color which looks great and it's much easier to maintain than black. Just keep your Quik Detailer or Eagle One Wipe and Shine at the ready and keep "detailing!" Most people usually only own one black car and then they learn their lesson.

There's nothing I know of, I use a California Car Duster and TWIce Detailer and 2 seconds later, my car has a thin coat of dust on it again... I just figured it's my cross to bear as a Mustang owner...

I've heard that even garage kept cars, under covers get dusty... Gary Paul can elaborate on that, possibly...

It's strange, because I had a black car when I lived in england, and I don't remember this problem... maybe there's less dust in england
