I know its a sin but i am going to college and im short on money so ive decided to drive my mustang this winter... i just cant trade her for a truck. Any suggestions for helping to get the car through in good shape? Thanks
i know that they can be kinda tough in bad winter weather. i would say some sand bags in the trunk and some snow tires all around would definitely help you out.

Minnesota gets some butt kickin winters starting in september and lasting till april or may, so it limits you enjoyment time with your Mustang. If at all possible try to minimize the time on the road after the salt trucks go thru, and if possible try to pressure wash the underside when possible. Depending on tyres, you might look at some studded snow tires, and maybe throw a couple of sand tubes, like Lowes or Home Depot sell for kids sand boxes. Put one on each side of trunk to give a little more traction. Starting out in 2nd gear helps also, whether a stick or an automatic, as you don't get the torque multiplcation and end up throwing all kinds of salt and or sand up under the car. On slick roads, when comming up to a stop, pop it up into neutral, as it will prevent wheel lock up.
something else, on my lawn equipment I spray the underside of the decks with silicon spray every couple of weeks, so the grass and other matter dosen't stick. I have a 52" rider deck that is 12 yrs old and still has no rust thru. I haven't tried it on a car, but think it might work.

well like i was saying b4 the thunder storm took out power for a sec there. SMITE ME ALMIGHTY SMITER!... sorry ummm im in the same boat so im putting sand bags in trunk, studded rear tires, and most important takking my time and having a camera in my glove box for the sorry little bugger that hits my baby!!! the way i look at is ppl been driving RWD cars through snow before FWD cars or 4x4 or AWD so its not a problem just time and pacients. when salt get on the car ill wash it the next day its not freezing and put it in my uncles heated garage till its 100% dry. good luck. and im serious about the camera. if your car gets hit tell that person not to move the car, tie up traffic till cop gets there and take pics of the whole layout. good luck to ya man

Don't just stud the rears! Put them on all 4 wheels. You need them on the rears to get you moving but you also need them on the front for steering and braking. Instead of sand tubes in the trunk (which always seem to leak and make a mess) put a jug or two of kitty litter in there. Works as good as sand to get you moving if you get stuck and it comes in gallon jugs with a screw lid. If you're driving only in urban areas there's no problem, but if you drive a lot of lonely highways make sure you keep a snowsuit, gloves, boots, space blanket, etc in the trunk during the winter in case you have to spend the night or walk out of wherever you got stuck.
This comes from a guy that's come down off of Red Mountain pass at 10,000ft, driving through 2 ft of snow in a blizzard more than once, only to find that they'd closed the pass down while I was crossing it because of the weather.

Wash the salt and grime off your Mustang as much as possible, especially the rockers. I grew up in Pennsylvania and have lived in Maine and it always worked for me.

Yeah ive been thinking of getting a unlimited washes pass to one of the local car washes. Is there anything i should do to the engine or drivetrain to help it through? Thanks for all of the answers
Double check your anti-freeze, the temps can get really low. On the coldest nights, I used to put my trouble light under a blanket that covered the whole engine. It held the heat nicely.

I tried last year to make it through the winter, with my trusty mud flaps and all, sadly the little engine that could, couldn't. She bottomed out.
It's way too early to think about winter driving, whatsamatta wit you?

the same winterizing you would do on any car:
change antifreeze, add snow tires, add some weight to the trunk (kitty litter in the jugs is very helpful), wash the salt off regularly, and drive carefully.
My first car was RWD and had no traction control or ABS, and I got through 8 winters just fine, so it is definitely do-able.
