2004 Mustang GT, Always Feel the Need to Wax after Washing
I love the way a nicely polished mustang looks in the evening, maybe too much. My car is a 2004 Stang GT, DS Grey paint. Very low miles and garage kept, so the paint looks damn near new. I want to keep it that way, so like like to keep a layer of wax on it. About a week after a full detailing job, dust and other pollutants start to build up, and needs detailing again, in my opinion. I'll wash the car, dry it, clay bar areas if needed, zymol cleaner wax, topped off with NXT Tech wax. In between waxing, I used to use Megs Mist and Shine Detailer with Microfib cloth, but started to worry about rubbing dust/dirt into the paint. With wax on the car, most of the dust can be wiped off easily with just a mf rag, but seems removing dust with water pressure is safer since its touch free.
My question is, do I need to add some wax after every wash? I worry about premature wear by applying too often, but would like to have a coat on there. Is there any frequent detailing methods to use?

No you do not need to wax after every wash. My car is garage kept as well. I never wash it. I use detail spray to keep it clean. It only gets a real fine layer of dust on it so I just keep it up with the spray. Since my car is not out that often I will still clay bar, polish and wax the car once a year. Or just when ever I feel it needs it.

I don't put quick detailer or wax on the car unless it has just been washed. I usually only use the spray to clean a spot up. I wax my car every 2-3 months. I use the california duster to keep the car clean between washes. It works good and won't rub dirt into the paint.

+1 on the cali duster. Also if it just sits in the garage, get a car cover for it and nothing will be on it. My car is garage kept with a car cover on it, then on the weekends or whenever i feel like driving it, the car will still be spotless. Then ill dust it with the cali duster and throw the cover back on. I only wash it once every 2 months or something cuz it stays so clean. Also claybar/wax it a couple times a year which help keep the shine too.

Yeah, I rarely wash and wax the cars that stay in the garage. Cali duster/spray as aforementioned is what I use as well. I wash the Bullitt weekly (because it sits outside). I plan to wax it at the six month mark.

Last summer, I probably washed the whole car maybe 3 times. Its garage kept but driven about 4 times a week. I was using that Megs Quik Detailer and seemed to keep the car looking perfect. This year, I happened to notice some small light scratches in the clearcoat, and wasn't sure if wiping the car down to clean dirt off was at fault. The car is Dark Shadow Grey so they are very hard to notice, opposed to my black car. Thats when I decided to just wash the damn thing, but after that the car doesn't feel ultra smooth glass, so I felt the need to wax.
Nice to here a should be safe going back to my old method with Detailer spray, since Ive got like 3 bottles. I'll have to get a Cali Duster like you said, been eyeballin them for a while. How long can you use the Cali duster before it needs cleaning or replacing?

From their site:
Question How do I clean my Duster? Answer Because of a special permanently baked in paraffin treatment, The Original California Dusters are made to provide years of effective service without the need for cleaning. Simply shake them out before and after each use. The "dirtier" they get the better they work.
If you find it necessary to clean your Duster because it is too dirty or if the Duster stops lifting dust, it can be washed. You may hand wash your Duster in cold water with a mild detergent such as Woolite, then air dry. Do not use hot water to wash or hot air to dry, as heat or harsh detergent may remove the special paraffin treatment.
