Question Removing tree sap

I had some tree sap (a pretty good sized mark) on the back of my car that I left there for a couple months. Today, I tried to get rid of the sap. It didn't come off as easily as I expected. Finally, non-acetone nail polish remover did the trick for the most part but there is still a slight yellow stain that I cannot seem to get off no matter what.

Is there any way to get this off or is it permanent damage?

Default tree sap removal

try some white polishing compound. not knowing how old or new I am assuming that it is a clear coated paint from the factory. Using the non-acetone nail polish remover, may have damaged your clear coat. After hitting it with the polishing compound, put a real good coat of wax on it.

Maybe its stained just on the clearcoat. May a good buffing with a very very fine rubbing compound. Just a theory.

I was a bit worried that maybe the nail polish remover would damage the clear coat, but among online sites, that seemed to be the general advice. The nail polish remover I used was non acetone which just sounds less corrosive... not to say that it really is... Is there any way to tell if the clear coat is damaged? My assumption would be that if the clear coat was gone, the yellow mark from the sap would have come with it. If all else fails, maybe a detail car wash place can help me out.
