Question ~~~ Liquid Teflon Wax ~~~

I received the trim pieces for the tail lights on the pony this week, and in the instructions, it says to use a "Liquid Teflon Wax", to keep the finish good.

I have many left over bottles of polish/wax from years past.

I never looked to see about Teflon Liquid Wax. Who makes it ??

Thanx

Ignore the recommendation in the instructions you got, they're bogus. Teflon is a trademark name of DuPont Chemicals for a polymer known as polytetrafluoroethylene or PTFE. Teflon is an example of a polymer that is not well suited for use in a car wax because of several properties unrelated to its durable slippery nature. I'll explain. Teflon is a powder that melts at 600 degrees Fahrenheit or dissolves in fluoridated solvents such as freon. Those are the only known ways to make Teflon into a liquid form. This is the main reason that Teflon is very poorly suited for car wax. If it can't be made into a liquid, it can't be made into a coating. If it won't coat the surface, it won't stay there. Teflon is a powder that gets wiped away with the other powders in a wax or polish.

To the average person, a bottle of "Liquid Teflon Wax" looks and sounds like a great product that will give your cars finish superior protection. This is nothing more than empty hype, and I can prove it. The maker of Teflon (DuPont) issued the following statement: "The addition of a Teflon flouropolymer resin does nothing to enhance the properties of a car wax. We have no data that indicates the use of Teflon is beneficial in car waxes."

All you need to use is a high quality carnauba wax. I recommend Menzerna Sealing Wax.
