I read in the manual that the polished aluminum rims have a protective coating. Should I be concerned about swirl marks or damaging the finish using a polish. In the past I have used "FlitZ" on polished aluminum that did not have a protective coating without any problems and with great results. I don't want to mess up my new rims.

If they're factory or Ford Racing rims, they definitely have a clearcoat, so a metal polish such as Billet Polish wouldn't be appropriate.

If on a clean wheel any of the Mothers Mag or Billet polishes (as should Flitz) will turn black almost instantly on bare metal, so if it doesn't, you've got a coated wheel.

It's a plasticized clearcoat that's a little different than on your body paint, so you can try your favorite car wax, but you might need a fine plastic polish.

I usually polish wheels with a PowerBall Mini as it makes the job easier.

Thanks for the tips. I have Boyd Coddington rims, which were on when I bought the car. Anyone know if his products are clearcoated?

I had some of his rims once a long time ago and they were not clear coated.
