Default Detailing: Best Washing/Waxing Products and Tips

I have been using Armorall Car Wash and Turtle Wax Formula 2001 Polish for over two years now on the Mustang. Are there any other products out that may be better or something that other people may have tried with good results. Also, I have a few light scratches from inconsiderate people in parking lots. I have tried turtle wax and meguires scratch "removers". They are only temporary though. Is there anything short of touch up paint that will work for a long time without problems? Thanks.

Zaino, 3M, Meguiars and mothers.

Those are some of the best products (in that order).

Turtle wax and most others just get washed out on the first rain

TSK TSK!

You have been abusing your car and its paint with that crap.

Using all Mothers TM products.... and a few others... Here is what you need, and what you need to do.

1.) Dawn Soap Wash Yes DAWN dish soap, acts a stripper for old wax and squashed bugs and tree sap, etc. Will not hurt paint

2.) Mothers California Gold, Clay Bar Kit Follow directions, clay bar the whole car, then rinse off with some soapy water till the resadue is gone

3.) Mothers California Gold, Carnauba Cleaner Wax

4.) Mothers California Gold, SEALER and GLAZE (phase two)

5.) Two Coats of Mothers California Gold, Pure Carnauba Wax (phase three)

6.) Four Coats of Mothers Reflections Premium Polish

7.) Removed each wheel and apply Mothers MAG & ALUMINUM POLISH After you clean the crap out of the wheel. Don't use that spray on spray off . It has acid in it which will pit and ruin your rims over time

8.) Mothers Back to Black for trim pieces

You can figure out the rest. Use 100% Terry Cloth Cotton Towls ONLY!!!

If you do this two the teeth, it will take all day, in the shade, on a cool day. You're car should look brand spanking new!

Trust me, I'm an expert on this. Yeah Zaino is just dany, but why pay that much when I can do just the same with Mothers.

Meguiars sucks, aviod thier products, they are own turtle wax.

I have tried exstensively both Mothers and Meguiars and both are as good, very little difference if any as far as durability (using their best paste wax). Mothers has a bit of an advantage as far as shine.

Now about ZAINO...have you ever tried it?
It is expensive YES, but lasts 5 times more than the above. And contrary to popular beleive it wont make your paint crack.
I have used it for 4+ years without a problem.

Now 3M stuff is hard to find, but it is also superior to Mothers and Meguiars..its more "pro" oriented.

ZAINO is like amsoil, its expensive and a pain to apply and yeah you've gotta order it from a dealer, try finding it at pep boys. I've used it. Whoopy dew, save some cash and just do the above with Mothers.

Its not a pain to apply or buff, you can do it in direct sunlight !
It is expensive, yes..but your paint is more expensive.

I havent found anything that can bring back the shininess of my Black paint as Zaino, and really LASTS long.

Who cares about pep-boys? you can order the stuff from their website, and their service is great.

Ok 3M is pretty good but not nearly as good as Meguiars professional line. Mothers can't touch the shine of a detailed Meguiars car.
Zaino ha! For all those who bash Meguiars and say its not as good as Mothers and Zaino, try this! You'll be amazed.

All products can be bought in local auto parts stores, paint shops, or off of http://www.meguiars.com

In the shade.
Exterior:
Meguiars Deep Crystal Car Wash 64oz $3.99
Buy a soft wash mit at auto parts store or Walmart. (very important
to keep clean to prevent scratches)
Hose attachment for washing wheel wells and tires.
Quality shammi

Surface prep
1. Mothers clay bar system
2. Meguiars Body Shop Professional Dual Action Cleaner/Polish (for light
and medium oxidation)
3. Meguiars Body Shop Professional Swirl Free Polish (removes swirl
marks)
4. Meguiars Show Car Glaze #7
5. Meguiars High Tech Yellow Wax #26

I use microfiber towels to buff. Regular wax applicator pads (slightly wet)

Wheels- Meguiars Hot Wheels
Tires- 303 Aerospace Protectant

Black trim- Mothers back to black or 303 Protectant, soon will be trying a permant dye restore.

Engine:
I use CD2, its very simple to use, spray on the cleaner and then rinse. Allow engine to dry and then spray detailer. Have had great luck with Simple Green and stiff brushes (lotta work though). Prefere CD2, only $6.99 at O'riley's Auto Parts

Wheel Wells- Simple Green or similar product (Meguiars Extra)
Convertible Top: Meguiars Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner, then 303
Protectant

Interior:

Throughly vacuum the car.
I every couple months I use a carpet shampoo.
I use 303 Protectant on my dash, side panels, etc.
Leather seats I use Vinylex Leather cleaner, best on market has a cleaner and then conditioner.

When I get some pictures developed I will post a link of my detailed car. This takes quite awhile to do but is well worth the effort!

Marc

PennyLess, I've read some of your posts. Love the engine detail tips, gonna try the steam out and steel wool. However on older cars it is required to cut the paint. And by the way no of the products you meantioned will remove swirl marks or scratches! They just cover it up. Try Meguiars Body Shop Professional Swirl Free Polish (it removes them unlike stuff you guys use that cover them!)

Has anyone tried Wizards Shine Master Polish and Sealant? I hear that is like Zaino, just more affordable?
