I just bought a 2005 Mustang and decided to clean the engine. I grabbed some Purple Power from the WalMart shelf, covered all the electrical plugs I could find, sprayed the engine down, let it set for 5 min or so, and then used a non-presurized water hose to rinse it down. Everything seems to work great but I have this sinking feeling that I could have damaged the engine. Do any of you have any experiences or suggestions?
The car runs great still and I only noticed some electrical tape on a few of the hoses coming off. I retaped them so I am good there. Is there anything else I need to be concerned with regarding the use of Purple Power?
I've always just used Simple Green in solution but if you make sure you're fully rinsed you'll be fine. Unless you're bay is super dirty you can usually just run a light stream of water through - mixed with some elbow grease and you're good to go.
We want pics of that clean engine!

Okay, I am 35 and sadly I have only recently gotten the mustang bug. I have owned 4 previously but I was way young. I have vowed to learn all that I can about this one. Sorry for the anoying questions but I don't want to destroy the car in the learning process.
I use simple green and some small brushes (old toothbrush for real tight spots). I only cover the air filter and computer.
Once I finish spraying, brushing and rinsing, I use the air compressor (used to use the leaf blower) to blow excess water our of the spark plug wells, and then I start the engine and let it run 30 secs or so, that will kick any water off the belts, pulleys and stuff.
I've purple-powered the engine in My 05 about twice a year since new with no ill effects yet. I always cover the open air intake filter and I'm very careful not to directly spray the alternator, but I haven't covered it. I DON"T let it soak, however, and I use the purple stuff sparingly, sticking mostly to the lower block. I then wash down the top of the engine and the rest of the bay with standard car wash soap and rinse it extremely well, avoiding the alternator. Did I mention you should avoid te alternator?
Anyway, I can't tell you it won't harm yours, but I can tell you mine runs fine. But, uh...
AVOID THE ALTERNATOR!
