Default sanding 1970 coupe hood need some advice

been sanding my hood down for 2days now had it down to the base coat or orginal paint sprayed some primer on cause its been raining off and on and i noticed i still had hella cracks in the paint. from what ive seen and been told is that the previous owners never sanded the car down they just washed and painted over the old paint and the last paint job it got had to much hardner and thats why it has the cracks?

now i was told that id have to sand down to the bare metal and start from there...

been sanding with 80 grit and then 320grit.

got some 40 grit and about to try and take it all the way down but was wondering if i really should anyone that has done work id be greatful for any help or advise on what to do next so that i dont have to keep sanding it over and over

the original paint was lacquer, which is bad about cracking. the best thing to do is take it down to the metal. after that prime with an epoxy primer, then a 2K primer. after that you can seal or paint. if you do not want to take it to the bare metal you can prime it with the 2K primer, but will take a couple of thick coats, and lots of sanding anyway. good luck
