Pine Tar on Vinyl Top

I hope you guys (and gals) can help me. A friend of mine let me borrow his mustang convertible while my car was being repaired. While in my yard (which is full of pine trees), pine sap dripped on the top. Now he's very angry, saying that there is nothing that can take it off without damaging the UV protectant(?) on the top. Is he right? Is buying another top for him the only solution?? Please help.

Hey Denise first of all welcome to AFM. Glad to have you on the site. Right above there is a sticky on Vinyl top care check it out and hopefully there may be some answers for you.
