im looking into getting my windows tinted before this summer hit. i want to get the side windows and rear window tinted, how dark should /can i go? and will tinting the windsheild help? how dark can that be? can any of you help with this?? pricing and shade?
Depending on where you live, tinting can make a huge differance. In Sacramento or Mojave, it will be huge. In SF, not so much.
Each state has their own limits about how dark the tint can be. The guys at the shop know what that is. On a big car, you can go with darker tint on the rear windows. But on a car like a Mustang, I think it looks better to have the same tint on both windows.
Tinting front windows in California is illegal. also you cant tint the windshield legally in california. i got my back three windows tinted the second darkest shade (right below limo) and my two front ones the second lightest shade. actually it doesn't look bad. look at the pics on my profile. it cost me 200 dollars.
also if your doing the front windows have them put felt on the rubber strip on the interior of the car facing the window. the mustangs dont have felt on the inside, and the tint will get scratched with out the felt.
O and, if you get the tint done at a legit place, there is normally a lifetime warranty against bubbling and color fading.

Reason: forgot to add somthing O.o
I took my car to a shop to get my windows tinted all the way around. I got limo tint on the rear and 2 side windows. I got the driver's and passenger's windows tinted 1 shade less than limo tint. I really love the way it looks but its also ILLEGAL (the 2 front ones). Each time I see a cop nearby, I usually just roll my windows down .
The last time I got pulled over (about 1 month ago), it was for my tints. It was like 5am so my tints seem darker then it would be at day light. Once I pulled over, I rolled down my windows and I was FORTUNATE that I was in my U.S. Army uniform (yes, I'm in the service). The cop told me that he had pulled me over for my tints but "no biggie" and got in his patrol car and took off . That and the fact that I have a VETERAN license plate was the reason I KNOW I didn't get a ticket .
Anyway, I think I paid like $130 or so for my tints. I think its a fair price because they still had to remove the old tints.

I just had mine done 3 days ago. I had him use 15% Llumar on the fronts and 5% (limo) on the quarters and rear. It looks awsome (illegal as it might be in FL!).
It was $100 for the tint job and an extra $40 for the old tint removal. After reading about what a PITA tint removal is, it was 40 bucks well spent. Definately worth my frustration factor. Some things are just worth paying for.
