I just bought a 2001 cobra and it is a little bit of a fix me upper. The headlights are extremely fogged up to the point I can barely see the light coming through. I have tried Lime Away and Kaboom but they didnt really work. Anyone have suggestions?
your gonna have to change them you will never be able to clear them up actually the chemicals will make them worse I would get new ones and new weather seals around them because thats why they fogged up in the first place. bad seals let the moisture in they steam up in the summer when its hot and ruin the plastic on the inside

I believe the problem lies on the outside though. The plastic is rough on the surface. Could I possibly wet sand them and polish them?

it wont hurt to try because your only other real option is to buy a different pair. I found some off a guys 03 Cobra for $50. Look around on craigslist and maybe ebay and youll find some great deals.

Check with your local body shop. My dad checked when his '99 GT was having the same problem. Body shop guy said he could sand them down and refinish them for around 60-70 bucks. But I ended up wrecking the car, so the insurance replaced them with smoked headlights
Yes, you can wet sand and buff them out. Its easiest to start with a DA sander and sand with some 400 on the DA, then move to 600 wet. then after that move to 1000 wet and then again move to some 1500 wet real quickly. Take the buffer with some regular compound and buff away, but be careful because you can burn the plastic easily. Your headlights will look almost new. Just did this to mine about two months ago when i bought the car!
I replaced the ones in my 2000 GT with new ones about 2 years ago when they fogged up. I tried the sanding, polishing, etc. They only work for a short time.

Remember that once you have polished them, the original UV protectant is LONG gone. Wax or sealant will help protect them. In fact, I wax mine now with a pure was to prevent damage.
