MY Clear Coat Has Flaked off pretty bad on my 67 mustang.

Im not rich, so im -n- out a local kid at the body shop for a "weeknd quikie." which will run me pretty cheap.
I have purchased a dupont Chroma-base( close to the color on car now) and nason mid temp. clear

the question is: how to approach this?......i was thinking of using METAL GLAZE(a very thin polyester type body filler.) to even it up to the clear and then scuff and spray the car. using scotch brite.

any suggestions?

i know you don't want to hear this, but all the clear needs to come off. if you don't get all of it off it will continue to peel after you paint over it. sorry.

Ya, i wouldnt use metal glaze to fill in the gaps from the clear peeling. The only time to use that is when your doin very fine body work.. And the old clear dont need to come off. Do some quick adhesion tests on the panels where the clear is still in tact. Wipe some laquer thinner over and area and after it fully evaporates, put some tape on the same area and peel it off real quick. This will tell you if your adhesion is still good on that area. Just feather out the clear thats peeling with a DA sander. Use some 320 to do it. DO NOT scuff the whole car with just scotch brite, It will peel right back off. only use scotch bright to go around sharp edges and door edges and such, pretty much places your sand paper cant get. However you can use scotch brite with some 3M scuffing paste. You just put a little on the scotch brite and use water and it will dull the panel down. I still like to use a little sand paper first just to make sure i get proper adhesion.. Any questions drop me a PM
