I've been trying to find a good product to treat the tires that will keep them looking black with a nice gloss. Not so much of a gloss that they look like plastic tires...lol.....but I think you know what I mean.
I've tried several products that are not bad, Turtle Wax Wet N Black, Black Magic Tire Wet, Meguiars Hot Shine and Mothers Tire Shine.
They all seem to have one thing in commen. Look great for awhile but when a rain comes, they all pretty much fade or wash off for the most part.
Has anyone used any tire black/shine products that you feel are really good and can last through several rains ?
I use Adams products on my car. But it does not have that high gloss shine. Not a huge fan of the high gloss. Sometimes people get way to carried away with that.

Tire treatments are snake oil. All they do is dry out the rubber and eventually cause it to dry rot and the sidewalls to crack.
Surely there must be some product that does not do that ?
I think the tires not looking nice and black is more of an issue on a black car. If I don't treat my tires they look like they are washed out compared to the body of my car.
But it sounds like there is no holy grail for tire treatment....
Just by keeping your wheels and tires clean, is enough to keep them looking black enough without using any tire shine that slings all over the inner fender and down the side of the body. Don't use the stuff, and my tires look fine, Mike. SCT Tuner.

I haven't had any problems with this....but that might be because I apply it with a sponge which keeps too much product from being on the tire which can fly off. Plus I let it dry completely before driving.
There are a couple of other products that are not the spray type stuff that is supposed to actually treat the tire to keep it from drying out and give it a normal black matte look and not that real glossy shine look. Might help if I just used rubber cleaner/treatment as well.
All the tire products you named are the types to look greasy and sling oilly crap everywhere. I use armorall tire foam because it is thin, not thick and greasy and most of it disapates in a few minutes. Not like the products you mentioned. All products look bad after you wash the car or it rains. Nothing you can do about it. The thing is; it doesn't wash off with rain, it just dulls the shine. It is still on the tire. You have to wash your tire when you wash the car to get the tire spray build-up off. You will see your sponge turn black. Nothing will look good after a rain or wash. Just wash the tires and re-apply. Also, coat the tire and WIPE ALL THE EXCESS OFF. You can do this if you aren't looking for a glass-like shine. I have tried them all and I like that one best. Black and clean not slick and plasticy. As for dryrotting; tires do that anyway if you keep them long enough. I have never had to replace tires prematurely due to tireshine. Will it happen? Maybe eventually, but my guess is you will have used the tires up long before that.

Thanks for the info.....I do have some tire dressing that I purchased from Griot's Garage, which has a lot of really good stuff. It's not the spray on stuff and it's supposed to be a nice black matte finish, not that blinding shine that goes too far.

Well if you got it form Griots that is usually some pretty good stuff.

Hot shine works great on my car. It never slings off, but I let it sit for at least 15 minutes and then drive the car very slowly for a few minutes. But then again, I am a fan of the wet and shiny look. I usually coat mine about 2 or 3 times. I definitely agree with HPMcGee on the shine wearing off... It is kinda like putting on makeup for your car. You have to remove the old and re apply the new to make it look good.

black magic tire shine works well and its cherry scented (LOL) but there is a trick to making it not ridiculously shiny and silly looking. 1st off do not move the car while doing this and be sure there is no water on the tires. use the wide spray setting on the bottle and coat the side walls. after applying give it about 15-30 minutes of sitting in place. next take a dry cloth and wipe around the entire sidewall in a single motion stopping where you started. then wipe up the excess on the wheels. it'll give you a long lasting semi-gloss kind of matte black that looks really good and won't make a slimy mess of your car or wheels. plus its inexpensive.
i dont like using anything on my tires. even if u tihnk its dry, it slings crap all over the side of your car after u clean it and take off down the road.

I've never had any problems at all with this....but then again I don't spray the product directly onto the sidewalls....I spray it onto a bone sponge and wipe it on. That insures there is no excess. But that could also be the reason why it doesn't last as long for me....it's a trade off.
